Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 4 cups fresh blueberries

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place butter in an 8-inch square baking dish.
  • Melt butter in the oven while preheating, about 5 minutes. Remove once melted.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and milk until smooth.
  • Pour batter over melted butter in the dish. Do not stir.
  • Scatter blueberries evenly across the batter.
  • Bake for 1 hour, or until golden and a toothpick inserted in the topping comes out clean.
  • Serve warm, plain or with ice cream.

Notes

  • Use fresh, ripe blueberries for the best flavor.
  • If using frozen berries, no need to thaw—just add a few extra minutes to the bake time.
  • For added depth, sprinkle a little cinnamon or nutmeg over the berries before baking.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a classic finish.
