Ingredients

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 10 ounces mini marshmallows about 4 cups
  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the butter turns golden brown and smells nutty (about 5 minutes). Be careful not to burn it.
  • Once the butter is browned, add the marshmallows to the pan and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies and a pinch of salt. Mix until the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow-butter mixture.
  • If desired, add vanilla extract and stir to combine.
  • Press the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch pan. Use a spatula to smooth the top and ensure the treats are evenly packed.
  • Let the treats cool for about 30 minutes before cutting them into squares and serving.

Notes

  • Be sure to watch the butter carefully as it browns. It can go from golden to burnt very quickly!
  • For a twist, you can add chocolate chips, peanut butter, or even chopped nuts to the mixture.
  • For extra flavor, drizzle melted chocolate over the top of the treats after they’ve cooled.
