Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas peeled and sliced lengthwise and crosswise
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup coarsely chopped walnuts
  • 1 pint premium vanilla ice cream

Instructions

  • In a large, deep skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring continuously until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
  • Add the banana slices to the skillet, turning gently to coat each piece in the sauce.
  • Sprinkle in the walnuts and cook for 1–2 minutes, just until the bananas soften but retain their shape.
  • Remove from heat and immediately spoon the warm bananas and sauce over scoops of vanilla ice cream.
  • Serve at once and enjoy the perfect blend of warm caramelized fruit and cold, creamy ice cream.

Notes

  • Use bananas that are ripe but not overripe to ensure they hold their shape.
  • Toast the walnuts lightly before adding for an extra layer of flavor.
  • Prepare ice cream bowls ahead of time so the dessert can be served quickly while the bananas are still hot.
