Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 glazed donuts halved horizontally
  • 1 quart fresh strawberries hulled and sliced

Instructions

  • In a chilled mixing bowl, whip the cream, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Place the bottom half of a glazed donut on a serving plate.
  • Spoon about ¼ cup whipped cream onto the donut base.
  • Arrange a portion of sliced strawberries over the cream.
  • Add another spoonful of whipped cream to cover the strawberries.
  • Place the top half of the donut over the layers.
  • Repeat with the remaining donuts, strawberries, and cream.
  • Serve immediately for best texture.

Notes

  • Extra flavor: Sprinkle a little lemon zest over the strawberries before layering to brighten the flavors.
  • Make ahead: Whip the cream and slice the strawberries in advance, but assemble the shortcakes just before serving to avoid sogginess.
  • Variations: Try swapping strawberries for mixed berries or even grilled peaches for a summery twist.
