- Step 1: Prepare the Dough
- In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Step 2: Prepare the Mushroom Topping
- In a skillet over medium heat, heat olive oil and sauté the minced garlic until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
- Add the sliced mushrooms, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the mushrooms are tender and slightly browned.
- Stir in the thyme and rosemary, then remove from heat.
- Step 3: Assemble the Pizza
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven while it preheats.
- Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or preheated pizza stone.
- Brush the surface with a little olive oil. Spread the sautéed mushrooms evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese on top. Add red pepper flakes if using.
- Step 4: Bake the Pizza
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes.
- Garnish with fresh basil leaves, slice, and serve warm.
