- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour sifted
- 1 ¾ teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup unsalted butter softened
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2 large eggs room temperature
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- ½ cup whole milk room temperature
- Pinch of salt
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch square cake pan.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla extract.
Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with milk, beginning and ending with the dry mixture.
Mix just until batter is smooth.
Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly touched and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing.
